Haha, I know some people would not consider an accomplishment... BUT it does show that I am doing something the average person would not, and because of that, people just hate you for it.
So the background is that I am in fact developing an info product around the fact that I can cook... well. I put an ad on Craigslist looking for a videographer and editor who would be able to help me put the video together. I can't pay them up front- it would be way too much. Possibly $3-4k. So I had to offer equity. I was offering a percentage of all the sales of this product and I estimated 60-80 hours.
Well, I got a LOT of responses, some takers, and some were not interested. I got one email that basically said the following (and I'm summarizing)
At first, I said was thinking "F you", go do something productive with your time. If you're not interested, go look for your standard 9-5. I asked around to see if I would be breaking any labor laws.
No, I would not be. Minimum wage only applies to full-time employees. I was asking for 60-80 hours in one month, essentially project-based so that doesn't apply to me. And the percentage I'm offering is VERY generous for an info product that has the potential to sell for years. Even other entrepreneurs said I was being generous. And besides, everything will be drawn out so they could take me to court if I did not follow up on my end of the bargain.
So in the end, there will be haters no matter what you do (but especially if you're are trying to rock the boat as I was). So I categorized it as an accomplishment because as an entrepreneur, you WILL have people who hate you for no apparent reason. You just keep going on to change the world while they just keep going on slaving at their 9-5.
The end.

You have to pay at least minimum wage or else you're breaking the law. Pay minimum wage and then offer a percentage on top. You don't want to break the law to make some crummy video, do you?

@vic, Haha
@Cec, you will face it in the near future. Every entrepreneur does. Hope this is good inspiration for everyone later on who does get hate mail.
I'll be putting this up in a blog post.

Re: Got My First Hate Mail
In some cases haters can make you. If you get alot of media coverage from haters (when your service/product isnt bad at all) then that media coverage will turn into alot more customers and exposure.
Say for example Just Beiber. Ok he has alot of fans, and tbh... He can sing. But he does have lots and lots of haters and from that exposure everyone knows about him. Same with Rebecca Black. She has like 60 million youtube hits with the worst song EVVER!

Re: Got My First Hate Mail
Got my second hate mail this morning... this one for another ad I put up on Craigslist. This one was even funnier than the first. I got blasted for the fact that I was putting together a team of videographer, editor, and possibly sales team and not paying them up front. Basically, she said this was impossible and called me a few words I can't put on here.
I was genuinely amused by it. I was looking for a cohost for this new show and she was really funny. Maybe I should hire her... not.
